On Lake Garda the countdown has started for the Valtènesi-Riviera del Garda Classico Doc Wine Fair of Polpenazze (Bs), the longest-running food and wine festival in Lake Garda ready to cut the ribbon of the 70th edition under the patronage of the Agriculture Ministry. The event is exceptionally scheduled from May 31st to June 3rd: the coincidence with the election day of May 26 made it necessary to move the historic event, which is traditionally held on the last weekend of May. “It is the first of the many innovations with which we want to celebrate this prestigious anniversary – says coordinator Massimo Corazza -. For our community it is a source of pride to have reached such an important milestone: there are few fairs that can boast such a long and articulated history, started from the post-war period to arrive to our days with a constantly growing success to date “. Hence the decision to celebrate with four days of events and tastings, in the historic medieval center of Polpenazze, a natural balcony from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the vineyards and olive groves of Valtènesi. Here you will find the stands of the guest wineries, with a space reserved for the now classic Borgo Bio, dedicated exclusively to the now increasingly numerous organic farms in the area. Entry to the fair will be free, but for the tastings of the wines presented by the producers it will be as always necessary to have a bag and a glass, which this year too, due to new regulations related to security in the square events, can no longer be made of glass: the administration of Polpenazze has opted for an innovative “Bio Based” glass, made with a special bioplastic derived from plant biomass, therefore deriving from a renewable source. Perfectly similar to a classic tasting glass, it is reusable or in any case 100% recyclable, and guarantees reduction of CO2 emissions and environmental impact. The adoption of this glass, an important choice for the Municipality that has reached record levels in the separate collection of waste, has led to a significant increase in expenses for the organizers but the cost to the public will remain as last year set at 6 euros, to which it will be necessary to add 1.50 euros for each tasting to the stands. “It is our first gift to the public that for years has been following us with such enthusiasm – explains Corazza -. In addition to the purchase of each glass, visitors will also receive a special gadget of the Fair free of charge, and to celebrate the anniversary worthily, the official t-shirt of the 2019 edition will also be available for purchase”.

The fair park will be extended to via della Parola with a street food area in which numerous trucks with local productions and specialties from various Italian regions will find space. A tensile structure will guarantee a greater number of indoor seats in the restaurant area dedicated to the classic Spiedo Bresciano, a must of the fair, and in the sandwich area. Finally, as always, the national wine competition of the DOC Riviera del Garda Classico-Valtènesi will be central. Moments of entertainment, live music, exhibitions and the possibility of balloon excursions (ascent and descent, free for children) will enrich the event’s program, which will end as always with a big fireworks display.
