Like every year, the countdown to the Valtènesi-Garda Classico Doc Wine Fair of Polpenazze (Bs) has started on Lake Garda: the 68th edition of this historic event, born in the immediate postwar period, is announced for the last weekend of May, from Friday 26 to Monday 29. After the 2016 sold out, the fair was confirmed as one of the major Garda events, and is now ready to go back on stage while remaining faithful to its original formula, that of the promotion of wines and flavors of the territory.
In the foreground, as always, the official oenological competition established in 2006 by the Department of Agricultural Policies for the Doc Garda Classico and Valtènesi: as always the tasting commissions will award the qualification of Excellent Wine to wines that have reached at least the score of 85/100 . Special prizes (labars and gold medals) will be awarded to the best Valtènesi and Valtènesi Chiaretto attributed by the municipal administration and to the best Garda Classico Doc Rosso and Rosso Superiore: in these last two cases the prizes were instituted by the Bank Of Credito Cooperativo del Garda, which also in this way aims to confirm its identity as a credit institution particularly close to the territory. It should also be remembered that the excellent Polpenazze Chiaretti will compete for the Pompeo Molmenti Trophy 2017, which will be awarded in June in Italy in Rosa in Moniga del Garda. From this year Polpenazze will strengthen the bond also with the Puegnago Fair, the third large showcase dedicated to the wines of the area planned for the end of August: only the prevailing reds based mainly on Groppello that will have obtained Excellence at Polpenazze will later be part of the classic Puegnago competition.
The Fair will have ad its frame the center of the medieval old town of Polpenazze, from whose square you can enjoy one of the most spectacular views on Lake Garda and Valtènesi: there will be 24 wineries for a total of over 100 labels for tasting. The Borgo Bio, the corner dedicated to organic farms, will not be missing. The entrance to the fair will remain free: visitors will be able to taste the wines of the territory with bags and glasses purchased at the entrance (5 euros, which will be added 1,50 euros for each tasting made). At the Corte degli Assaggi it will be possible to make guided tastings and comparisons of all the wines awarded in the competition, combined with a selection of typical products of the territory.
The Dispensa del Gusto will finally serve the inevitable Garda “spiedo”, the real column of the Fair: live music, exhibitions, various initiatives will enrich the program of the event, which will close with a great fireworks show.
