The disappearance of Giovanna Sorbi, a rare figure of orchestra conductor, has aroused great grief even on Lake Garda: a prestigious presence in the Brescia and national classical music scene, her festival “Suoni e Sapori del Garda”, organized in collaboration with the Strada dei Vini e dei Sapori del Garda, had become a regular event of the Garda summer thanks to an intriguing formula that was able to combine music of the highest quality, historical locations of great beauty and a pinch of food and wine with tastings of local products.

Giovanna Sorbi would have turned 59 in a few days and was defeated by a serious illness: the funeral will be celebrated on Friday 16 February at 10.30 in Brescia in the Basilica of San Faustino.

“The news left me appalled,” said the mayor of Brescia Emilio Del Bono. “Giovanna was a strong and courageous woman, an esteemed musician and a much appreciated Conservatorio teacher. She graduated in piano and composition and dedicated herself to an activity, that of orchestral conducting, traditionally entrusted to men. Regardless of the unfortunately still rooted prejudices, according to which there are exclusively male professions, Giovanna has carried out, with competence and professionalism, musical projects that have given prestige to our city. A woman of great human and artistic qualities leaves us. A painful loss for all of us “.
