Lonato del Garda explores the opportunities of the “widespread” or virtual hotel  formula (in italian “Albergo diffuso”): in the past days, the city at the gates of Garda has presented the results of a study which could lead on the future to a major tourist devevelopment for this nice big village near Desenzano.

The “albergo diffuso” has been spreading in Italy since the late ’70s, and is based on the restructuring and the networking of existing buildings in the area. The result is a kind of atypical hotel, where the rooms are precisely “spread” across the village but still in the presence of a reception, common spaces and traditional hotel services.

For the realizazion of the “Albergo Diffuso” of Lonato there may be fourteen properties available, owned by the Municipality and the Fondazione Ugo Da Como anche located in the historic “Citadel”, at the foot of the fortress. They are all very old buildings, long awaiting restoration, where you could get a significant number of beds and host craft activities. The reliefs on the buildings surveyed were carried out by 80 students of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Brescia, who presented a first hypothesis of restoration and reuse. The presentation was also attended by Giancarlo Dall’Ara, Professor of Tourism Marketing, founder and president of the National Association of Alberghi Diffusi and maximum Italian expert on the subject.
