The world of the Garda and Brescia wine is mourning the sudden death of Sante Bonomo: the president of the cooperative Civielle – Cantine La Pergola in Moniga del Garda has died aged 62 in the night between Wednesday 15 and Thursday, March 16 , struck by a sudden illness.
Bonomo was an indispensable figure for the Benaco wine area, but ha was known and appreciated throughout Italy and abroad for the many institutional roles he has held: among other things he has been President for two terms of the Garda Classico Consortium, in a period in which he managed the delicate and complex transition to the new Doc Valtènesi which also led to the changing of the name of Valtènesi Consortium. He was also presidente of Ente Vini Bresciani and has previously served as vice president within Ascovilo, the grouping of Lombard consortia.
On the professional front the great challenge of Sante Bonomo was Civielle – Cantine della Valtènesi e della  Lugana- the only wine cooperative of the Brescia Riviera del Garda, which he helped found in 1979: a pioneering reality also in terms of the introduction on the territory of ‘organic agriculture, grown over the years under his leadership to become a reality of 45 members (including 30 grape growers), with 80 hectares under biological management and a production of 300,000 bottles of Lugana and Valtènesi.
Last year Bonomo was able to achieve another important project with the launch of Cantine La Pergola, the new corporate brand of the cooperative: in the event at the brand launch, held last November in Moniga, Bonomo had also presented the book “Agriculture and cooperation on the Garda Bresciano (1841- 2016) “, which he strongly supported, written by journalist and researcher Pier Giuseppe Pasini and published by Civielle. Bonomo will be remembered also for the activities related to solidarity as the Homerus Project for navigating sailing for the blind, or his contribution to the development and upgrading of the historic Salesian winery Cremisan in the Holy Land.
Sante Bonomo leaves his wife Angela and sons Manuel and Jurij. Deepest feelings have been expressed in these hours by employees and Ente Vini Bresciani collaborators as well as by leaders and manufacturers of Valtenesi and Lugana Consortium who have had the good fortune to know and work with him.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 10.30 in the San Filippo Neri Church at Villaggio Sereno, in the suburbs of Brescia.
