A new label for one of the characters who have made the history of Garda viticulture: the Franzosi winery in Puegnago have expanded its range by launching a few days ago the new Garda Classico Superiore Rosso vintage 2015 selection Bruno Franzosi, dedicated to the founder of the company, 75 years, still active in the winery and in the vineyard alongside the sons Giovanni, Paola and Luigi.

Produced with a 60% percentage of Groppello, which come together in cuvèe with other classic grapes (Barbera, Marzemino and Sangiovese), the Bruno Franzosi undergoes a 6-8 month aging in barrels from 30 hectoliters and barriques, and is in some way a product that perfectly reflects in the glass the outspoken and authentic spirit of the winemaker whose name it bears.

“It ‘a reserve with which we wanted to give you an idea of the historical importance of the many sacrifices made by my father for this company, founded in ’38 by our grandfather – says Giovanni Franzosi -. It ‘a very typical wine of our territory but also interpreted in modern perspective certainly no stranger to our father vision, with particularly soft and velvety tannins for a clientele that even on Garda is now looking more and more of these kind of wynes in which the respect for the tradition can not be separated from structure “.

The Bruno Franzosi wine ideally gains its place alongside the other important red of the house, the Privilegio (Privilege), which  very name expresses the ambition to offer an important evolutionary perspective to the classic Valtènesi red wines. In this case, the difference lies in the refinement, lengthened to a year and a half and divided between large barrels (60%) and barriques both new and second passage (40%). Franzosi is now presenting vintage 2013, which together with the more and more refined and elegant Rebo (available now in the 2016 vintage) and a new Chiaretto with a strong and pleasantly nervous flavor, goes to constitute the spearhead of a production of 200,000 bottles, destined to grow in the short medium term up to 220,000 thanks to three new hectares of Marzemino and Rebo planted last year and intended to get up to speed with the harvest in 2018.

These are the “aces” with which Franzosi is preparing to meet the challenges of a year that has opened positively, especially after the satisfactions of a 2016 marked by an increase in sales in the order of + 10%. “We will be at ProWein in Dusseldorf, very important event for our German masters customers said Giovanni -. Germany has become for us a very strong market, both in direct sales and for export which makes up about 20% of our production. For Italy, however we have also chosen this year to participate to Vinitaly “.

But in addition to wine, Franzosi, has become synonymous with high quality extra virgin olive oil, with 3000 trees of ownership and an annual production of about 60 hectoliters divided into four types: the single cultivar Leccino and Casaliva, the Fiore (a blend 50 – 50 between the two), and a basic extra virgin.

“The 2016 campaign was more than satisfactory – tells Giovanni -. This is because we intervened in time and with adequate treatment against the threat of the olive fruit fly, which last year was responsible for a disastrous year in Italy. We recorded a growth of 15% but with lower yields: qualitatively we are very satisfied, the 2016 oil is perhaps less strong and spicy than usual but definitely more sweet and delicate”.
