Quantities again in line with the averages of the territory, grapes in excellent health conditions, perfect fermentations, very high quality expectations: it’s really a rewarding vintage for the grapegrowers of the Brescia coast of Lake Garda (with the Doc areas Valtènesi, Garda Classico, Riviera del Garda and San Martino della Battaglia), who have celebrated the end of harvest on Sunday, Oct. 11 with “Profumi di Mosto” (which you can translate as “Must Scents”), one of the most well known  gastronomic autumn events of Lake Garda.

It has been an opportunity to celebrate a very lucky vintage: it has been estimated a harvest of about 5000 tons of grapes, with an increase of + 15% on the 2014 vintage that many will remember adversely affected by very critical climatic conditions, with temperatures constantly below the average and plenty of rain. Quite the opposite of 2015, characterized by high temperatures, sunshine and very little water: such good weather, report producers, allowed to schedule perfectly harvesting operations paying attention only to quality. Groppello, indigenous variety of reference in the area that accounts for about 55% of all types grown, has arrived to the harvest after the long summer drought, with an excellent sugar content, perfect phenolic maturity, good acidity. Producers in the area are expecting wines of excellent aroma and intensity of fruit, thanks to the elegance of Groppello, which will give origin to Chiaretto wines with fragrant scents of white flowers and citrus flavors with extremely soft and harmonious flavours, typical of warm seasons like this . The production capacity will reach 4 million bottles, of which the Doc Valtènesi, with foreground Chiaretto will be as always the cutting edge.
