The calendar of events organized to remind the 158th anniversary of the Battle of Solferino and San Martino, a crucial event in the history of Lake Garda on 24 June 1859, is particularly rich. It’s an ideal occasion to visit one of the most fascinating areas in the Garda territory: here the countryside is particularly rich, quiet and beautiful, wìth many wineries, farms, and restaurants, where in addition to the celebrated Lugana there is also a small and almost unknown historical wine like San Martino della Battaglia Doc , a white wine obtained from Tuchì grapes (as Tocai was renamed in Lombardy after the European Union granted Hungary the exclusive use of the name of this vine).

Just under the San Martino Tower on Saturday 24th (9.30pm), a gala concert will be held by the municipality of Desenzano, with the town band directed by Guido Poni and the soloists of Magico Baule of master Marcello Merlini: a big screen will be reproduce the pictures of the movies from which the music performed during the show is taken. In the afternoon guided tours of the monumental complex and the First World War exhibition will be organized. Sunday 25th guided tours will continue all afternoon and at 5pm there will be the great historical re-enactment of the Battle of Solferino and San Martino with the clash between the three Austrian, French and Savoy armies. A special episode will be dedicated to the memory of Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross.

To conclude the day, at 6.30 pm, the “Selva Capuzza” farm in the San Martino countryside, has organized the event “A Dinner with History” with the performance of the show “Here, By Chance, On That Day”, a history of the Battle of San Martino and Solferino from unusual points of view sung and narrated obviously in italian. You can also stop for dinner in the farm’s restaurant, which, moreover, produces Campo del Soglio, one of the most important and fascinating San Martino della Battaglia wine.
