Happy birthday Lugana, a 50 years long success

Lugana Doc is celebrating half a century: 2017 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the for the first denomination of origin entered into force on Lombard soil, and the Consortium is preparing to celebrate the anniversary with a number of initiatives that will focus particularly during the summer period in the five municipalities of production. The birthday falls at a particularly positive moment for the area: the Garda white wine has become a phenomenon without borders, leading to some years of unbridled growth that looks set to continue well into the new year, with exports up to 80% and a consortium institution now representing 155 wineries (three have joined in the first two months of 2017), accounting for 90% of producers. But for President Luca Formentini the high average quality of the product is the real strong point.

In this context, the Lugana strategy for 2017 will remain focused on finding new partners with a promotion which includes over 40 events across Europe and the USA. “An essential choice – says Formentini – to maintain margins wider.”
