The quantities are on the decline, but with good quality expectations: in the last few days the olives harvest has begun in the olive groves of the Brescia Garda Riviera, while the oil mills have now entered into full business.

After a sharp increase in the past campaign, a decline was as usual expected: in fact according to the Coldiretti forecasts, the reduction in 2017 could reach -20% compared to the annual production rate between Garda and Sebino equivalent to 65 thousand quintals of olives for 750 thousand liters of oil, largely attributable to Benaco, representing 76% of Lombardy’s total production. However, taking the 2016 comparison term, the passive might be even heavier and touch -50%. A drop that would be partly caused by the April frost as well as the drought that has hit the Garda in recent months, although in September the weather conditions were ideal to end the cycle of ripening, ended despite high temperatures with only a slight advance on usual timings.

“In September the rains were ok, neither scarce nor excessive, the temperatures well balanced with good thermal excursions between day and night – says Simone Frusca, olive oil and viticulture manager for Coldiretti Brescia. The ideal to expect a vintage of great quality, even because we did not have pests, the fly was rare, localized and well managed, and the product looks healthy everywhere. “
