Polpenazze Wine Fair, one of the most popular food and wine events of Garda Lake, will take place this year from May 29 to June 2 in Polpenazze del Garda: the event celebrates its 66th edition with a five-day festival to discover the wines, the flavors and traditions of Valtènesi.
The fair has been launched for the first time in 1947, but it has been constantly increasing remaining faithful to the objective of promoting a region characterized by unique conditions of the climate and environment through its wines and its typical products. The event will as usual be characterized by the official wine competition established in 2006 by the Ministry of Agriculture for the Garda Classico DOC and Valtènesi Doc: as usual the taste commissions will award the qualification of Excellent Wine to the ones that have achieved at least a score of 85 / 100. For the Chiaretto, the ones decreed excellent by the jury of Polpenazze will have access to the selection of the Trophy Pompeo Molmenti, which will be awarded in the first weekend of June in Moniga. There will also be special prizes for the best Valtènesi Red and Valtènesi Chiaretto, attributed by the municipality, and the best Groppello and Rosso Superiore, established with the support of the bank Banca di Credito Cooperativo del Garda.
Nothing will change in the traditional formula of the event, which will have as its theater the medieval old town of Polpenazze, inimitable “balcony” on Garda Lake where there will be the stands of 21 wineries: the visitors can taste the wines of the area equipped with bag and glass purchased at the entrance, while in the Corte degli Assaggi there will be compared tastings of all the award-winning wines in the competition combined with the best cheeses of the area. Do not miss the Borgo Bio, the corner dedicated to the growing number of companies and wineries Valtènesi who practice organic farming. In the main square it will be possibile to taste the traditional Spiedo, one of the most traditional courses of Garda Lake.
